The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a dominating 7-2 win over Mitchell College on Friday.
With the victory, the Falcons registered their first win since defeating Pine Manor 8-1 on Sept. 22, 2010.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick start as they won the first six matches to seal the victory.
The Falcons swept doubles' play then used impressive performances in singles by Na'Tasha Mesidor (Bridgeport, Conn.), Gina D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.), Malika Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chantal Simmons (Eat Harlem, N.Y.) to cruise to the non-league win.
In No. 2 singles, Mesidor defeated Julie Embley of Mitchell 6-1, 6-0 as she and Sandybell Anorga defeated both Embley and teammate Carly Paterson 8-4 in No. 1 doubles' action. D'Agostino and Grant combined to defeat Mitchell in No. 2 doubles before D'Agostino defeated Jenn Schmidt 6-3, 6-4 in a close No. 3 singles.
Grant cruised to her first singles' victory of the season as she won 6-0, 6-1. Simmons followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win of her own over Mitchell's Dominique Lacroix.
Today's win also marked head coach Bob Migliorini's first win at the helm of the women's tennis program at Albertus.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 as they travel to Emerson College for their 2012 GNAC opener. That match is scheduled to begin at noon.
