Falcons Soar to 7-2 Win at Saint Joseph's Brooklyn

The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 victory over Saint Joseph's Brooklyn on Sunday evening at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The win marks the second for the Falcons in their last three matches as they improved to 3-8 overall.

With her second win of the weekend, senior Chantal Simmons improved to 4-5 in singles play on the season. Simmons downed Shamika Thomas 10-2 in No. 5 singles after combinning with Sharinna Luna in No. 3 doubles to defeat Thomas and Teresa Mangan 8-1. Simmons also has a team-best four wins in doubles' action this season.

Albertus fell in just two matches as Saint Joseph's College took wins in both No. 1 and no. 2 singles as Victoria LaBosco defeated Sandybell Anorga 10-8 in a close battle, while Kelly McNamee defeated Na'Tasha Mesidor 10-4, respectively. Before falling in singles' play, Mesidor and Anorga battled in a 8-5 victory in No. 1 doubles to lead the Falcons.

Gina D'Agostino edged Patricia Nealon 10-8 in No. 3 singles, while Malika Grant downed Mangan 10-3 in No. 4 singles. Grant and D'Agostino teamed up in No. 2 doubles to defeat the Bears' Nealon and Deirdre Lavelle 8-5.

Sogona Sacko also registered a win in No. 6 singles as she shutout Lavelle 10-0 to improve to 3-4 in singles play in the sixth position.

The Falcons will hold their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 20 as they host the College of New Rochelle in an 11:00 a.m. match-up.
