The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team won its third match in its last four contests as the Falcons defeated the College of New Rochelle 6-3 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons, who were celebrating their "Senior Day", put together a great effort, ending the season with their fourth victory.
Gina D'Agostino earned a key match victory in No. 3 singles to put the Falcons ahead 4-3. Albertus opened the afternoon with two of three doubles' matches thanks to the play of seniors Tykima Thompson and Chantal Simmons. The duo defeated CNR's Sonia Daniel and Kendra Michel 9-7 in the third doubles' position.
With an 8-4 dominating win for Malika Grant and D'Agostino over Nancy Varughese and Jhanelle Mullings, the Falcons took a 2-1 lead after all three doubles' matches were complete.
Simmons won the third point for the Falcons as she won No. 6 singles by commanding 6-0, 6-1 scores over Kendra Michel.
After the Falcons lost both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, D'Agostino picked up her key victory before Grant sealed the team win with a 6-3, 6-2 final over Amanda DeFrancesco in No. 4 singles.
Thompson played in the best match of her career as she battled with New Rochelle's Mullings and won in a second-set tiebreaker. Thompson won by score of 6-2, 7-6, 7-4.
The Falcons finish the season with a 4-8 overall record, the best in the past four seasons as the Falcon seniors ended the 2012 season with a remarkable victory.
