JWU Defeats Falcons 9-0 in Women's Tennis

The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) 9-0 in league action on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Conn.

Both Malika Grant and Zaida Velazco battled in No. 2 and 1 singles as well as No. 1 doubles but the Wildcats were too dominant.  The Wildcats, who improve to 7-1 on the year and 3-0 in GNAC play, swept today's competition.

Grant and Velazco fell in No. 1 doubles 8-2 to JWU's Morgan Thompson and Darcy Predieri before the Wildcats swept doubles' action with a pair of 8-0 sets.

Teresa Piniero and Sogona Sacko were on the losing end of the 8-0 set in the No. 2 position, while Ivah Soares and Biance Agron were defeated 8-0 in the third spot.

Velazco fell in No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-0 to JWU's Thompson, while Grant battled but fell to Piperis 6-1, 6-3 in the second position.

The Falcons host Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. match.
