Falcons Fall to Suffolk 9-0 in GNAC Tournament

The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team fell to Suffolk University 9-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal round of the GNAC Tournament on Wednesday evening.

The Rams' freshman Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) took the top singles' match with 6-2, 6-0 straight set victories over freshman Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) as the number three-seed Rams topped the sixth-seeded Falcons.

Sagyndykova opened the evening as she partnered with senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) for an 8-0 double set victory in top tandem match over the Falcons' Velazco and junior Malika Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

All six Suffolk players earned multiple wins on the evening for Suffolk as they improved to 5-8 on the season.

Senior Elizabeth Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-6 doubles victory in the second doubles' match besting the Falcons' Stephanie Thy (New Haven, Conn.) and Sandybell Anorga (Stamford, Conn.). Arkins was a winner in the third singles match with straight 6-0 victories over Malika Grant. Eshoo was also a winner in straight sets with 6-0, 6-1 victories in the sixth individual match as she topped junior Sogona Sacko (New York, N.Y.).

The loss drops Albertus Magnus to 4-8 on the season, an identical record from just a year ago.
