New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team fell to Sarah Lawrence, 6-3, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Celentano Courts. With the loss, the Falcons move to 1-2 on the year, while the Gryphons improve to 4-2 with the win.
In doubles action, the visitors took two of three to take an early, 2-1, edge. At No. 1 doubles, junior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) and freshman Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) won, 8-3, for Albertus. The visitors would take the other two contests by scores of 8-5 and 8-0.
In singles play, Velazco won her tilt at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 and freshman Izzy Sabino also won in two sets at No. 3. Sabino topped Sofia Ref, 6-3, 6-0.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday, September 23 with a home non-conference clash versus CCNY.
