Flushing, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis won its second consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, topping host Vaughn, 8-1, in non-conference action at the United States Tennis Center. With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-2 overall, while the Warriors dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Albertus Magnus got off to a quick start, taking all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The top-two Falcon tandems won without dropping a game. At No. 1, the duo of Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) and freshman Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) won 8-8, and so did the Albertus tandem of freshman Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) at No. 2. The team of freshman Kiana Vega (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Chelcie Roan (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored an 8-3 win at No. 3.
In singles play, the visitors won five of the six matches to earn the triumph.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 27 with a non-conference road match at Bay Path.
