Women's Tennis Cruises Past St Joseph's (Brooklyn), 8-1

Harrison, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team won its fourth straight match, topping St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 8-1, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Life Time Athletic Club. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 5-2 overall, while the Bears dropped to 2-4 on the fall with their first home setback of the season.

Albertus Magnus got off to a quick start, sweeping doubles play in convincing fashion to build an early, 3-0, lead. At No. 1, the tandem of junior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) and freshman Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) netted an 8-4 triumph. The Falcon duo of sophomore Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 2. Freshman Kiana Vega (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Chelcie Roan (Bridgeport, Conn.) outlasted their opposition for an 8-5 victory.

The visitors were dominant in singles action, winning five of six matches to secure their fourth road win of the autumn.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, October 7 with a home Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash versus Mount Ida.
