Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus junior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) was tabbed as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvais Women's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Velazco had another stellar week for the Falcons, winning in convincing fashion in both singles and doubles action in an 8-1 non-conference road win versus St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). She teamed with freshman Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) to score an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and she cruised to a 10-1 triumph at No. 1 singles.
Velazco is now 6-1 at the top spot in singles action this season and riding a five-match winning streak. In doubles, her and Weaver have amassed a 5-2 mark.
Velazco and the Falcons return to action on Tuesday, October 6, with a road GNAC clash versus in-state rival St. Joseph.
