Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman women's tennis player Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship Team as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
It was a record-setting fall for Sabino and the Falcons, as the team finished the year with an 8-6 overall record and qualified for the GNAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed after finishing 2-4 in league play. The eight wins were a new program record and the post-season berth in the conference tournament was the second in school history. Down the stretch, Albertus won their final two regular season matches.
Sabino tied for the team-lead with nine singles victories after competing all autumn at No. 3. She posted a 2-4 mark in conference action and a perfect 7-0 mark in non-conference tilts. In doubles play, the tandem of Sabino and sophomore Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) partnered for a team-leading nine wins, highlighted by a six-match winning streak in the middle of the year, after competing at No. 2 all season. The duo also had a team-best three wins in conference action.
