The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team prepares for three matches in the week ahead as the Falcons take on Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Tuesday afternoon, while taking on John Jay and Lesley this weekend.

Game 8: Suffolk 7 | Albertus Magnus 2 – RECAP/ BOX SCORE
Game 8 Highlights:

  • The closest contest was at No. 1 as the Albertus Magnus tandem of Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) fell 8-4 to Isabel Rathlev and Elena Cisneros-Garcia.
  • At No. 2 singles, freshman Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) forced a three-set thriller as she dropped the first set, 6-2, but managed to secure the win with back-to-back victories, 7-5 and 10-4.

Game 9: Albertus Magnus 9 | New Rochelle 0 – RECAP/ BOX SCORE
Game 9 Highlights:

  • The duo of Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) and Paige Williams (Orange County, Va.) raced past their opponent, 8-0, at No. 3.
  • The Falcons tandem of Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up the first win of the day, 8-0, for the visitors at No.
  • Freshman Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) and senior Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) wrapped up doubles action with an 8-0 shutout victory at No. 2.

JESSICA COUGHLIN NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Freshman Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) of the women's tennis team has been named as the Albertus Magnus College Female Student-Athlete of Week.

Coughlin won both her singles matches at No. 2 as well as posted a 1-1 record at No. 2 doubles over a 1-1 week for the Falcons. Coughlin forced a three-set thriller in the 7-2 setback against Suffolk on Saturday. The rookie dropped the first set, 6-2, but managed to secure the set win with back-to-back victories, 7-5 and 10-4. On Sunday, Coughlin went 2-0 overall following a pair of shutout wins against New Rochelle in No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles.

THIS YEAR NOTES

  • The Falcons welcome two newcomers to the club in 2017.
  • Head Coach Bob Migliorini enters the season with an overall record of 24-41.
  • Albertus Magnus returns five players from last year's squad.
  • Senior Kelsea Wildman was named captain for the 2017 season.
  • Head Coach Bob Migliorini welcomes a new assistant coach and alum Daniel Constantinidi.
