Elms Slips Past Falcons 3-2 in Women's Volleyball

Despite winning the first two sets of the match, the Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to Elms College 3-2 (25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 10-15) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

After downing Becker College 3-0 in an earlier match, the Falcons jumped out to a quick lead and won sets one and two by scores of 25-19 and 25-17. Elms, the host of the non-conference tri-match, battled back and edged the Falcons 25-22 in back-to-back sets to tie the match at two sets apiece.

The fourth set, which was won by Elms, featured 10 lead changes, while the score was tied 12 times.

Elizabeth Williams (West Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons in the final set, recording three kills in four attempts, but it was not enough as Elms hit .538 with nine kills in 13 tries to eventually take the match victory.

With the loss, Albertus falls to 2-13 on the year, while Elms improves to 8-12.

Williams finished the match with 13 kills in 26 attempts to hit .462, while five of her teammates registered double-digit dig tallies. Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) had 12 digs, while Sotear Dy (Torrington, Conn.) added 10. Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) registered 13 digs and a 2011 match-high eight service aces.

Leanna Velez (Waterbury, Conn.) tallied 20 assists and 10 digs as well as three service aces, while Krista LaBissioniere (Meriden, Conn.) added a team-high 20 digs.

The Falcons will head to Nashua, N.H. on Monday, Oct. 10 as they will compete in a tri-match featuring Pine Manor and Rivier. Albertus will take on host Rivier at 11:00 a.m. before facing Pine Manor at 1:00 p.m.
