Falcons Drop 3-1 Decision to Pine Manor in Volleyball

The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Pine Manor on Monday afternoon. After winning the first set 25-22, the Gators came back and won the next three with scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-21.

The Falcons (2-15, 1-6 GNAC) used three kills from both Elizabeth Williams (West Haven, Conn.) and Tiffany Ortiz (New Haven, Conn.) to take the first set over the Gators. Albertus hit 20.7-percent in the set as they recorded nine kills in 29 attempts.

Pine Manor bounced back after the two-point loss in set one and defeated the Falcons 25-10 in the second set. Albetus recorded just four kills in the set but also had four hitting errors. The Falcons hit 22.7-percent in the third set but were edged by the Gators 25-20.

Pine Manor's Jennifer Gross had a stellar outing for the Gators as she recorded 14 kills and four digs, while Alie Johnston and Destiny Mann registered 11 and 12 kills, respectively.

Megan Patch dished out a match-best 31 assists as the Gators recorded 45 kills on the afternoon. Albertus was led by Leanna Velez (Waterbury, Conn.) with 20 assists and eight digs.

Krista LaBissioniere (Meriden, Conn.) tallied 15 digs as she now leads the Falcons on the year with 214. Williams finished the match with a team-high 10 kills in 29 tries, while she added nine digs.

Albertus will travel to Suffolk on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a GNAC tri-match with the Rams and Emmanuel (Mass.) beginning at noon. The Falcons will take on host, Suffolk, at noon then will face the Saints at 2:00 p.m.
