Women's Volleyball Drops a Pair of Conference Matches to Regis (Mass.) and Simmons

Weston, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference matches to Regis (Mass.) and Simmons College on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Court.

RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (9-6, 0-2) | Regis (Mass.) (5-9, 2-0) | Simmons (7-6, 1-0)


MATCH 1: Regis (Mass.) 3 | Albertus Magnus 0
SET SCORES: 25-16 (RC), 25-9 (RC) and 25-8 (RC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was an evenly matched first set as both Albertus Magnus and Regis (Mass.) battled through four ties until a kill from Shay Faber gave the hosts the momentum needed to take set one, 25-16.

Regis (Mass.) continued to control the momentum of the match by taking the next two sets from the Falcons by the scores of 25-9 and 25-8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Senior Delaney Ruiz led the charge for the visitors with a team-high four kills to go along with five digs.
  • In the middle, senior Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) paced the Falcons with seven assists and eight digs.
  • The Pride was led by both Katryna Veasey and Shay Faber with seven kills each.
  • In the middle, Haley Schulte had an impressive 15 helpers.
  • Offensively, Regis (Mass.) held a 34-14 edge in kills.

SET SCORES: 25-21 (SC), 25-16 (SC) and 25-12 (SC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Simmons controlled the majority of the opening set until a kill from Ruiz cut the Sharks' lead to within one, 21-20. However, the Sharks would close out the first set with a 4-1 run to take the early edge over the Falcons heading into set two. 

Albertus Magnus found themselves trailing Simmons early in the set before an attack error by the Sharks gave the Falcons their first lead of the frame, 12-11. Shortly after, Simmons regained the lead and defeated the Falcons in set two, 25-16.

It was a quick third set as Albertus Magnus fell 25-12.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Freshman Kimberly Keller (Bridgeport, Conn.) posted a team-high four kills as well as posted a .300 hitting percentage.
  • Jarene Harberts led Simmons offense with team-high 21 kills to go along with five digs and a block assist.
  • The Falcons recorded only 16 kills in the match, while the Sharks tallied 43.
  • Defensively, sophomore Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) posted a team-high two blocks.
  • Both Beard and Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) recorded seven helpers.

UP NEXT
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 26 as the Falcons take on SUNY Purchase. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
