Women's Volleyball Ends Season at GNAC Tri-Match at USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon with a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) setbacks to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and Simmons University.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Falcons started the match strong, going ahead 4-1 early on and 12-7 by the midway point.
  • After a rally by the Blue Jays that saw them build a 20-16 advantage in the late stages, Albertus answered by taking nine of the final 12 points to seal a comeback 25-23 victory.
  • AMC and USJ kept the match close through the first 13 points of the second set, as the home team owned a slim 7-6 lead.
  • Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Blue Jays rode that early momentum to put together a run to earn a 25-18 triumph.
  • After evening the match at 1-1, St. Joseph never looked back, taking a 25-14 win in the third set and a 25-12 triumph in the fourth to seal a four-set GNAC victory.
  • Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) led the way for the Falcons on offense, pacing the team with nine kills while also tallying four blocks.
  • Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) also finished with a stellar stat line, assisting on 16 of the team's 26 kills to go along with five aces.
  • On the defensive side of the ball, Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) paced AMC with 10 digs.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Sharks controlled the action in the nightcap, winning the first set 25-14 before recording back-to-back 25-8 wins to seal a straight-set victory.
  • Kalman added to her kill total for the day, tallying a team-high four against the Sharks.
  • Rachael Pellegrini (Clinton, Conn.) finished with seven assists in match two on AMC's seven kills.
  • Defensively, Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons with seven digs.
