HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set - including six straight points - behind two kills from Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) and one from Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.). Fisher got two within two points at 8-6, but Albertus took complete control on a 12-4 run after two more kills from Pelaez and benefitting from five attack errors from Fisher. Fisher got to with 24-20, but a kill from Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) gave the Albertus the 1-0 lead.

Fisher knotted up the match, 1-1, separating themselves from Albertus after the team split the first 16 points. Fisher used an 11-4 run thanks to four aces, two from Natalia Sanchez to get some breathing room at 19-12. Albertus answered scoring nine of the next 12 points, cutting their deficit to 22-21 as four different Falcons had kills during the run, including Kanishjoary Marrero-Martinez (Schenectady, N.Y.), Elizabeth Lynch (Stratford, Conn.), Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) and Pelaez. However, Fisher held off Albertus over the last four points.

What started out as a close set three - one which Albertus didn't trail - the home team rattled off the final eight points in the match as Fisher committed five errors to go with kills from Pelaez and Richards and an ace from Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.).

No team took bigger than a three-point lead in a hotly contested fourth set, as the two teams swapped leads five times. Pelaez had four kills and Edwards, three in the final frame. With Albertus down 19-18, Pelaez blocked an attack from from Natalia Sanchez to tie the game at 19-19, changing the momentum in the set. The teams exchanged the next four points, making it a 22-22 score, but Albertus rattled off the final three points, including a block from Nathalie Wallace (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Richards setting up match point, which Albertus got after an attack error by Fisher.
