ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College Volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, falling to the Raptors of Bard College in the first match in three sets, but defeating Purchase in three sets in the second match.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Raptors never trailed in set one, leading by as much as eight points on one occasion. Seven of the Falcons' points came from kills.
The Falcons trailed by four or less points until the score read 13-17 in set two. The Raptors gained momentum, scoring two points before dropping one to Albertus, 13-19. Bard finished off the set with six consecutive points for a 14-25 win.
Albertus battled Bard in the third set, coming close within one point, 7-6, before Bard took flight taking the undeniable lead. The Raptors scored nine points while only allowing Albertus to score two during that period, 8-16. After the Falcons scored its ninth point, the Raptors scored four consecutive points to lead the Falcons by 11. Bard closed out the match with a 25-14 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS
In set one, the Falcons turned a 3-3 tie into a 20-8 insurmountable lead as the 17-5 run put it out of reach. During the run, the Falcons scored eight straight points, including kills by Kanishjoary Marrero-Martinez (Schenectady, N.Y.). Yarelis Torres (East Haven, Conn.) and Nathalie Wallace (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also had kills in the set. The Panthers never got closer than nine points the rest of the way. Marrero-Martinez had four kills in the set.
The second set had a more competitive tone to it as Purchase took a 6-4 lead early on. With the Panthers up 7-6, Albertus rattled off a 6-1 run to take a 12-8 lead and never relinquished despite Purchase tying the match up at 15-15. From there, the Falcons doubled up the Panthers the rest of the way as Purchase committed five errors before back-to-back kills from Edwards and Marrero-Martinez closed out the set.
In the final set with the Falcons holding onto a slim 19-18 lead, they pulled off a 6-1 run to end the match as Purchase once again hurt their own cause, giving up three points during the stretch via errors. Edwards had an ace and Marrero-Martinez and Torres each had a kill in the deciding run.
