NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) of the Albertus Magnus women's ice hockey team and Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) of the men's basketball team were named the Takin' Flight Falcons of the Week for their performances last week.
Johnson collected a career-high 62 saves in a tough overtime loss to New England Hockey Conference opponent, Elmira on Friday. The sophmore goalie followed up with 61 saves on Saturday and is on track to surpass her 784 save total from last season as she currently has 710 this campaign and boasts 1,494 career saves.
Kirkland went 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-8 from long-range en route to 18 points in a 76-62 triumph over in-state Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) to extend the team's win streak to six on Saturday. The sophomore guard scored 16 of the last 17 points in the first half for the Falcons as they held a 28-19 lead at the break.
