HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Elms would have sophomore pitcher/outfielder Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, Mass.) start in the circle, pitching four and ⅔ innings but Albertus would be the first on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning, followed by four more runs in the second. In the bottom half of the second inning, after two walks, Zakaitis would hit a single to center field to load the bases, but the Falcons would record the third out to take the inning. In the top of the third inning, AMC would add three more runs to take a 9-0 lead, but Elms would continue their efforts to score after a single by graduate student catcher Kelsey Bennett (Granby, Mass.) in the bottom of the third. Then in the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore utility player Amanda Raymond (Auburn, Maine) would hit a triple to drive-in first year utility player Sydney Barthel (Windsor Locks, Conn.) for their run of the game. Unfortunately, the Falcons would score three final runs in the fifth inning to secure the 12-1 victory over the Blazers in Game 1.
Game 2
In the second game, first year pitcher Reece Hebert (North Haven, Conn.) continued pitching, throwing a combined three and ⅔ innings with a strikeout. Albertus would also carry the momentum they created in the first game over to the next game, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Elms would continue their efforts on creating some offensive momentum, with sophomore pitcher/infielder Jill Dykema (Preston, Conn.) stealing a base, but the Falcons would continue to silence their bats. In the top of the fourth inning, Dykema would relieve Hebert in the circle, pitching two and ⅔ innings, with two strikeouts. As the game neared its end, the Blazers would see a pair of singles by Bennett and senior outfielder Kyla Cook (Taunton, Mass.), but Albertus would score seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the win 13-0.
