Men's Lacrosse Beat Albertus Magnus in Double Overtime

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Men's Lacrosse team hosted Albertus Magnus College in conference action at Leary Field Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms would take an early 2-0 lead after back-to-back goals from sophomore Tosh Marshall (Sylvan Lake, AB, Canada) and first-year Ethan Menard (West Springfield, MA). Albertus Magnus would score in the middle of the opening quarter, but as time was winding down, Marshall would score his second goal of the game, giving the Blazers a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter. As the next quarter started, first-year Miah Rondon would score another goal for the Blazers, but the second quarter would belong to the Falcons. Albertus Magnus would score three unanswered goals to tie up the game going into the halftime break, 4-4.

The Falcons would continue their momentum in the third quarter, scoring two goals to extend their lead to 4-6. Shortly thereafter, Menard would score his second goal to bring the Blazers within a point of tying the contest, but Albertus would score another goal, then moments later, sophomore Connor Tobin (Northampton, MA) would score bringing the game to 6-7 heading into the fourth quarter. The Falcons would start the quarter with a goal, but two goals from junior Matthew Salerno (Campbell Hall, NY) and a goal by first-year Nicky Miltenberger (Ridge, NY) would give Elms the lead 9-8. But as the clock was winding down to its final seconds, Albertus would score to bring the game to overtime.

The two sides would go scoreless during the first overtime period, but first-year goaltender Casey Dmochowski (Rutland, MA) would record a save in the period. Then with a 1:50 left on the board, first-year Luciano Jordan Canino (Dalton, MA) would score the game winning goal for the Blazers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Marshall and Menard would lead Elms with two goals each and a combined six ground balls.

  • Miltenberger would go 20-24 on face-offs and retrieve 15 ground balls with a goal.

  • Canino would record two assists, four ground balls, and a goal.

  • Dmochowski would stop 13 shots in the contest.
