Falcons Return from Spring Trip With Valuable Experience

New Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Baseball team returned back to Albertus Magnus College following their annual spring break trip.  The young Falcons return with a 2-5 record poised to return to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason.

Albertus started the trip by defeating Rivier College 7-6 and 12-2 at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ.  The young Falcons then dropped the first game of a double header against host Greensboro College before losing a heartbreaker leaving the bases loaded in the last two innings of the second game to a 6-4 defeat.

The Falcons then traveled to take on #14 Christopher Newport University who took advantage of the young Falcons as they made errors despite a strong pitching performance from sophomore left hander Matt Caputo (East Haven, CT/East Haven).  The trip continued to Virginia Beach, VA where the Falcons took on host Virginia Wesleyan College.  The Falcons surged to an early 3-0 lead but eventually gave the lead back to the host team dropping a 7-3 decision in the last three innings.

Albertus concluded it's trip against #21 ranked Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD.  After six hitless innings the Falcons battled to cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the 7th.  Salisbury responded by taking the 5-2 lead in the bottom frame.  Albertus battled to a 5-5 tie narrowly missing a double down the line to take the lead in the top of the 8th.  Salisbury would ulitmately come back in the bottom of the 8th and take the eventual 9-6 win.

The Falcons visited both Duke University and the University of North Carolina's campuses as well as held a practice at the Navy during the trip.  "The spring break trip was clearly a learning experience but was certainly a positive one for the program.  We have several newcomers that gained valuable experience and insight to college baseball.  As a young team we will need to overcome these tough losses and learn how to win close games late.  This year's success hinges on the develop of our younger players and how fast they can mature, stated Head Baseball Coach Brian Leighton."
