Brian Levchuck pitched six shutout innings of work before an error allowed Emerson to score its lone run of the game as the Albertus Magnus baseball team defeated Emerson 6-1 in GNAC action on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-17 on the year and even their record out to 6-6 in GNAC play.
Albertus led by three runs after five innings before scoring three more runs in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead. After Kolby Woodfield doubled down the leftfield line with one out, the Falcons registered the second out of the seventh with a fly ball to right. Levchuk was one out away from recording his first shutout of the year but a throwing error on the Falcons' shortstop allowed Woodfield to score the Lions lone run of the ballgame.
With the loss, Emerson falls to 7-23 on the year and 2-8 in GNAC play.
Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) scored the Falcons' first run of the contest as Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.) grounded out to short. The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) as Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) scored on the play.
In the fifth, Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch to give the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.
Back-to-back singles by the Falcons' Sokolis and Peter Haggerty (South Windsor, Conn.) put runners on the corners in the sixth before a wild pitch scored the Falcons' fourth run of the contest. Sedia singled to center to score Haggerty from second before Mendez tallied an RBI single in the frame as his base hit plated Oscar Torres (Jersey City, N.J.) for the Falcons' sixth run of the ballgame.
Levchuk threw a complete game four-hitter on the afternoon as he picked up his fourth win of the season.
Nick Kelly took the loss for Emerson to drop to 1-5 on the year from the hill. Kelly threw five innings and allowed seven hits, five runs and three walks before Julian Rifkind pitched the final inning. Rifkind allowed two hits and one run in his one-frame outing.
Both Prevalla and Sedia recorded two hits apiece for the Falcons, while Sedia and Mendez registered two RBI each.
Albertus returns to action on Tuesday as the Falcons host Purchase in a non-conference contest at Quigley Stadium.
