
The Albertus Magnus baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in game one of the Monday afternoon doubleheader.
The Monks (19-9, 9-2 GNAC) scored a run in the third then the eventual game winner in the sixth before securing the win with a run in the top of the seventh.
In the third inning, an RBI double by Zach Graham put the Monks on the board before Saint Joseph plated a run in the sixth on three hits, including an RBI single by Brandon Chase.
In the top of the seventh, two Falcon errors allowed the Monks to get a player in scoring position before they scored their third run of the contest.
Albertus ruined the Monks' chance for a shutout as freshman Tyler Graziano (Trumbull, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch. The Falcons' rally was cut shut short as a called strike three ended the game.
Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) earned the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. The sophomore allowed six hits and two earned runs in a complete seven innings of work.
The Monks' Joe Gruntkosky struck out 11 and allowed six hits in seven innings. He improve to 4-1 with the win.
Both teams had six players with one hit apiece.
