Baseball Sweeps Twinbill at Rivier

Nashua, N.H. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team swept Rivier University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Holman Stadium. The Falcons cruised by the Radiers in game one 10-4 and held on in the night cap 7-5, despite the Raiders rallying three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st – 4th Inning – Albertus Magnus came out of firing on all cylinders in game one scoring a total of nine runs on nine hits to take a commanding lead over Rivier entering the bottom of the fourth. Senior Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) led the offensive attack with two home runs while Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) chipped in with his second home run of the season.

(B) 5th Inning – Rivier rallied together in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs on five hits to cut the Falcons' lead to within five, 9-4.

(T) 6th Inning – Freshman Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as he doubled to left field allowing Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) to score for the Falcons' 10th run of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st – 4th Inning – The Falcons continued to swing the bat in game two as the Falcons held a 4-0 lead over Rivier entering the bottom of the fourth. Warren got things going in the top of the first as he allowed Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) to score on a sacrifice fly to center field.

An inning later, another sacrifice fly, this time from Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.), allowed the Falcons' second run of the game to score before back-to-back RBI from Hunter Dumas (Norwalk, Conn.) and Clark in the top of the fourth gave the Falcons the 4-0 edge following a two-run inning.

(B) 4th – 5thInning – Rivier started to pick up momentum in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly from Adam Arkell.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tyler Ferdinand cut the Falcons' lead in half, 4-2, as he advanced a runner to second and sent a runner home on a single down the left field line for his first RBI of game two.

(T) 7th Inning – Albertus tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 7-2. With no outs and bases loaded, Bradley allowed the first run of the inning to score before Daniel Kennedy (Manchester, Conn.) singled to right side sending home Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Justen Rodriguez (Waterbury, Conn.).

(B) 7th Inning – Rivier final threat of the day came in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and runners on first and second. Drew Neely drove in two runs thanks to his double to left before crossing home on a RBI double from Jacob Rayner.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow, April 30th against Lasell. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Rochford Field in Hamden, Conn.
