HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vikings raced out to an early lead in the first game, taking a 2-0 advantage after a first-inning homer from Christian Burt and an RBI double from Zach Piroh. However, Falcon starter Ike Flannery (Wethersfield, Conn.) worked out of the jam by striking out the next two hitters to end the frame.

Salem State continued to press its advantage in the second inning, as Wilbur Morel homered to left field and Christian Burt hit an RBI double into left-center to make it a 4-0 game. However, Flannery settled down, retiring the next seven hitters to hold the Vikings at bay.

The Falcons first got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) launched a solo home run over the left-center field fence to make it a 4-1 contest. A Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) single and a Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) walk quickly followed, putting two men on for the Falcons, but Vikings hurler Brock Pare slammed the door, retiring the next two hitters to end the threat.

Salem State continued to press its advantage in the top of the fifth inning, hanging a four-spot on the board behind a four-hit frame to take an 8-1 lead.

The Vikings added to their total in the top half of the sixth with a single from Brahaim Ortega, who quickly stole second and third base before racing home on a sacrifice fly from Burt.

The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the sixth, as Jefferson singled and Warren followed with a walk. The Vikings countered with a pitching change and brought in hurler Chris Smith, who induced a flyout to center field from Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) to strand both runners on base.

Despite a scoreless inning from Zack Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) in the top of the seventh, the Falcons could not mount the comeback, settling for a 9-1 loss in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The pitchers controlled the action to start game two, as Albertus' Tyler Baldwin (Cromwell, Conn.) allowed just one hit through his first 2.0 innings. Salem State starter Jack Sefrino answered with three scoreless innings of his own to make it a 0-0 game heading into the home half of the third inning.

The Vikings opened the third with back-to-back singles to put two men on with no outs before Baldwin retired Burt on a flyout to right field. Traverse Briana responded in the very next at-bat with a three-run home run over the left-field wall to give Salem State a 3-0 advantage.

Albertus threatened in the top of the fifth, putting two men aboard with two outs, but Sefrino struck out Nhasean Murphy (Manchester, Conn.) to end the threat and keep the blue-and-white off the scoreboard.

Salem State tacked on some insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame as Briana launched his second home run of the game to make it a 5-0 contest.

An Arent walk and Warren single put two men aboard for the Falcons in the sixth, but Albertus could not push the runs across, and the teams transitioned to the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Vikings continued to press their advantage, tacking on an additional pair of runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead heading into the last half inning.

Despite trailing, the Falcons did not go quietly, loading the base with no outs to start the seventh. Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.) led off the frame with a single before Joseph Cortes (Bridgeport, Conn.) reached on an error, and Anthony Broadhurst (Stratford, Conn.) was hit by a pitch. Back-to-back sacrifice flyouts from Murphy and Matthews plated two runs for the Falcons. Unfortunately for Albertus, the comeback fell short, as Salem State called upon Kyle Banche to record the final out to preserve the Viking's 7-2 victory.
