Ward Has Three Hits, But Baseball Loses To Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Vance Ward (Norwalk, Conn.) had three hits for the Albertus Magnus College baseball team, but the Falcons lost an 18-6 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game to Dean College on Tuesday afternoon.

Ward finished the day 3-for-5, including a double, with an RBI and a run. Troy Piascik (East Haven, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after the team had five hits in the inning Abate and Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) both singled and Piascik drove Abate in with a single of his own. After a single from Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) loaded the bases, Ward got his first hit of the day, beating out an infield single. Albertus left the bases loaded.
  • The Dean offense came alive in the second and third innings as they took a 9-2 lead. Jacob Paschetto tied the game with a two-run home run,  the first of his three home runs. The Bulldogs took the lead on an RBI single by Rylan Secovich.
  • Dean used a six-run third inning to take control of the game, as the first four batters reached base safely. Joey Bossinas hit a two-run singled followed by Paschetto's second two-run homer of the day. Dean added two more RBI singles in the inning.
  • The Falcons got a run back in both the fourth and fifth innings on a wild pitch that scored Ward and an RBI single from Piascik, respectively
  • The Bulldogs scored four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings as Paschetto hit a grand slam in the sixth for his third home run of the game. In the seventh, Nick Amendolar hit a two-run homer that made it a 17-4 game after the seventh inning.
  • Albertus scored its final two runs in the top of the eighth courtesy of two errors by the Dean defense.

  • It was the first three-hit game for Ward this season as he currently holds a six-game hitting streak.
