NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team opened the 2023 season with a setback against the Pilgrims of New England College in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt, 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pilgrims kicked off the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute when Mikayla Vincent found Adelaide Kelly to score. 

The Falcons stiffened their defense, limiting the Pilgrims to only six shots leading into the halftime break. 

NEC came alive in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to put the Pilgrims up 4-0.

Albertus was unable to stop NEC from sealing the deal when they scored their fifth goal in the fourth quarter to end the game 5-0.

The Falcons finished today with seven saves while the Pilgrims fished with two.

NEC had an advantage in penalty corners over Albertus, 12-1.

Seven Falcons performed in their first career game at Albertus: Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.), Amber DeJonge (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Sarah Hoffman (Springfield, Va.), Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.), Rosianys Rivera (New Haven, Conn.), Maddy Gootjes (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) and Briony Retasket (Beaverton, Ore.). 

Today's game also marks head coach Keria Integlia's first game at the helm of the Albertus Magnus College field hockey program.
