Warner Scores 1,000th Career Point in Men's Basketball Setback at Kean

UNION, N.J. - The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team tallied three double-digit scorers in its hard-fought road setback, 96-62, to the Cougars of Kean University on Tuesday night.

With a made 3-pointer at the 4:47 mark of the first half, Davon Warner (New Haven, Conn.) joined the 1,000-point club, becoming the 18th Falcon to reach this prestigious plateau.

Jacqual Gertrude (Jersey City, N.J.) led AMC in scoring with a 14-point performance, while Warner (11) and Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) (10) also scored in the double-digits for the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus and Kean traded baskets over the first seven minutes of play, battling to an 11-10 game, with Kean leading by one. Gertrude contributed six points for the Falcons during the back-and-forth action with a pair of made 3-pointers.
  • The Cougars rallied and put together a quick 5-0 push to take a 16-10 advantage with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half.
  • A Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) lay-up halted the run before the Cougars took off for another 6-0 run to take a 22-12 lead.
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers from Warner cut the hosts' deficit to six, 24-18, with just over six minutes left to play in the first half.
  • The teams exchanged lay-ups, before Warner hit paydirt yet again, nailing his third shot of the game from behind the arc to make it a 26-23 contest with just under five minutes to go in the half.
  • Kean retaliated with a pair of made free throws before Warner cashed in on a lay-up opportunity to cut the deficit back to five, 30-25, with 3:52 left on the clock.
  • The Cougars responded with a 13-0 run over the final minutes of the half to take a commanding 43-25 advantage into the halftime break.
  • A Terry Dawkins (Bronx, N.Y.) lay-up in the opening seconds of the second half got AMC on the board early, but Kean roared right back with a lay-up of its own.
  • The teams traded baskets through the first three minutes of play in the half, with the Cougars leading 51-34 at the 16:31 mark.
  • After that, the Falcons put together a 6-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 11, 51-40, as Bryan Assie (Stamford, Conn.) had five points and Gertrude nailed another 3-pointer in the run.
  • The two teams traded treys for the next few minutes, giving the hosts the 57-43 lead with 11:35 remaining in regulation.
  • The Cougars put together an explosive 12-4 run over the next few minutes to take a 69-47 advantage with 7:52 remaining in regulation. Washington and Tashawn Tokley (Merchantville, N.J.) scored lay-ups for the blue-and-white over the stretch.
  • The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes, with Bonilla hitting a pair of jumpers and Gertrude finding the net once more to make it an 80-56 game in favor of the Cougars with just over five minutes left to play.
  • The Falcons put together a quick 4-0 push to cut the score to 80-60 before the Cougars retaliated with their own 5-0 push to make it an 85-60 game with 3:02 left on the clock.
  • Kean capped off the win with an 11-2 run over the game's final minutes to secure a 96-62 non-conference victory.
