Men's Basketball's Washington and Bonilla Sweep GNAC Players of the Week Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) and Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week awards after their outstanding performances in the Falcons' win over Nichols College on Friday, Jan. 30.

Washington was a force to be reckoned with in Albertus' home win over challenging non-conference foe Nichols. The senior center tied a career-high with 18 points and set a new career mark with 17 rebounds over his 35 minutes on the court. Washington was nearly perfect on the floor, going 9-for-10 (90%) from the field. He was also a dominant force on the glass, with 14 defensive rebounds and three offensive boards on the way to his second double-double of the season.

Bonilla was on fire in the Falcons' home win over Nichols, as the junior guard led all players with a season-high 24 points. The Tenafly, N.J., native went 8-for-14 (57.1%) from the field, 5-for-9 (55.6%) from behind the arc, and 3-for-4 (75.0%) at the free-throw line. Bonilla's five 3-pointers helped swing the game for Albertus, as his two treys to start the second half helped the Falcons secure a lead that they held on to for the rest of the game.

After earning a dominant 123-94 home victory over Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday evening, the Falcons return to the court on Thursday, Jan. 5, for a home contest against conference foe Regis (Mass.) College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
