Men's Basketball Claims Road Win over Rivier, 95-69

NASHUA, N.H. - Behind four double-digit scorers, including a season-high 14 points from Saikwon Williams (Norwalk, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team defeated the Raiders of Rivier University on Saturday evening by a final score of 95-69 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) cross-divisional match-up. 

Along with S. Williams, Jacqual Gertrude (Jersey City, N.J.), Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.), and Robby Simmons (Hartford, Conn.), all scored in double-digits for the Falcons. Gertrude netted 11 points, while Bonilla and Simmons rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams played tight defense over the first few minutes, denying each other a scoring opportunity until the 17:50 mark when Dawkins put in a lay-up to spark a 10-2 Falcon run. 
  • A pair of jumpers from Rivier halted the Falcons' run before Bonilla nailed his second three-pointer of the game at the 12:31 mark to give AMC the 13-6 advantage. 
  • Shortly after, Albertus exploded for a 14-2 run, including four points from Jeyson Slade (Stamford, Conn.) and Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.), which pushed their advantage to 27-8 with 9:14 remaining in the half. 
  • From there, Albertus and Rivier forced a back-and-fourth battle running the score to 39-21 with 3:49 left in the first half. 
  • Rivier closed out the opening stanza on a 10-8 run, cutting the deficit to 15, 47-32, heading into the halftime break.
  • The back-and-forth battle resumed to start the second half as Albertus and Rivier countered each made basket and pushed the score to 63-52, in favor of the Falcons, with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • An explosive 11-4 run over the following three minutes pushed Albertus' advantage to 18, 74-56, but a 7-3 Raider's run that cut the blue-and-white's lead to 14, 77-63, with 5:47 left on the clock.
  • The Raiders put together another quick spurt, following a layup from Nesta Roberts, before Gertrude struck again, nailing another shot from beyond the arc to boost the Falcon's lead to 16, 83-67. 
  • Albertus didn't let up, orchestrating a 12-2 run to close out the game, 95-69.

  • S. Williams also had a season-high nine rebounds.  
  • Gertrude recorded his fourth double-digit performance of the season with 11 points.
  • Simmons' 10-point performance was a season-high.
