Men's Basketball Clipped by Regis (Mass.) in GNAC Road Clash

WESTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team came up short on the road to Regis (Mass.) College, 93-91, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) divisional showdown on Saturday afternoon.

Graduate student Terry Dawkins (Bronx, N.Y.) led the offensive attack as the forward netted a career-best 29 points with nine rebounds, three steals, one assist, and a block. Freshman Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.) was the next player to finish in double-digits with 14, followed by Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.), who finished with 12 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first seven minutes of play saw Albertus and Regis battle for the lead as the teams battled through four ties and two lead changes.
  • Following the 18-18 tie on a three from Albertus' Saikwon Williams (Norwalk, Conn.), the Pride's offense kicked it into high gear, putting together a 10-0 run over two minutes of play, sparked by a three from Russell Rau. 
  • A layup from Crawford at 9:32 capped the Pride run and resumed the back-and-forth battle that managed to bring the Falcons to within seven, 35-28, with 6:58 left in the half.
  • Five unanswered points by the hosts pushed the advantage back up to 12, 40-28, but a 6-0 spurt by the blue-and-white cut the deficit to six, 40-34. 
  • The teams traded shots for the remainder of the half, heading into the halftime break with the Pride holding the 47-41 lead.  
  • Out of the break, the Falcons orchestrated a 6-2 run behind three different scorers to cut the deficit to two, 49-47, just 1:20 into the second stanza. 
  • The Pride roared right back, exploding for a 12-0 push that expanded their lead to 61-47 and forced a Falcon's timeout with 16:09 remaining in regulation. 
  • Albertus continued to chip away at the double-digit deficit and found themselves within seven, 67-60, with 11:49 on the clock after a 13-6 run that included seven points from Dawkins. 
  • Albertus' offense remained a threat, with the visitors rallying together an 11-4 run that brought them to within two, 73-71, with 7:49 left on the clock.
  • A Pride foul at the 7:12 mark sent Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) to the charity stripe, where the freshman center nailed a pair of free throws to tie the game at 73-all.  
  • A layup from Dawkins at 5:23 evened the score once more, 75-75, but Regis maintained a five-point cushion over the next three minutes.
  • The final two minutes of play saw the Falcons battle back to within one on four different occasions; however, the visitors fell to the Pride by a final score of 93-91.
