BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a slow start offensively for both teams as no one scored until the 17:41 mark of the first after a layup from Washington gave Albertus the early 2-0 lead.
  • The two teams could not separate from each other as no team took a two-possession lead until the 5:12 mark of the first half when the Falcons took a 20-16 lead after a jump shot from Slade.
  • The teams would tie two more times in the first half, the final time with 1:38 left after Keyon Pryce hit two free throws to make it a 25-25 game.
  • After the final tie of the first half, the Falcons held the Red Hawks scoreless, going on a 6-0 run to take a 31-25 lead into the half, including the final four points from Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) who had a fastbreak dunk and made a jumper with four seconds remaining.
  • Daniels scored nine points in the first half for the Falcons, while Crawford had eight. Mike Jackson led the Red Hawks with nine points in the first 20 minutes.
  • Albertus took its biggest lead at the time at the 16:04 of the second half after a three pointer from Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) gave the Falcons a 38-29 lead at the 16:04 mark.
  • Montclair State gradually crept back, cutting their deficit to 42-41, thanks in large part to back-to-back threes from Grant Holbrook. On the ensuing possession for Albertus, the Falcons took advantage of an offensive rebound as Bonilla hit another three to go up 45-41
  • Albertus looked to pull away going back up by 13 - their largest lead of the game after a third and final three from Bonilla at the 6:23 mark, capping a 9-3 run and taking a 57-44 lead. During the run, the Falcons scored seven straight.
  • Montclair State made a furious rally, cutting the Albertus lead to 59-58, led by Kieran Flanagan who had five points and two assists during the comeback attempt.
  • After a timeout, the Falcons went back up, 61-58 after a layup from Washington at the 2:34 mark.
  • Flanagan followed with a jumpshot to cut the lead back to one and would give the Red Hawks their first lead of the second half after sinking two free throws to make it a 62-61 game with 1:24 left.
  • On the ensuing possession, Slade would hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 62-62. The game would remain scoreless the final 1:19 after both teams failed to hit their three-point attempts in the final minute, sending the game into overtime.
  • The Falcons took an early one point lead in the first overtime after a free throw by Xavier Edwards (Jersey City, N.J.) until Montclair State took their largest lead in the second half after a four-point play from Mike Jackson.
  • The Falcons scored the next six points on buckets from Edwards, Slade and Daniels to go up 69-66.
  • Albertus held a 71-68 lead until a three from Jackson tied the game, 71-71.
  • Daniels followed with three free throws over the next two possessions to put the Falcons back up 74-71. However, Kyree Henry would send the game into double overtime after sinking a fall-away three-pointer with a hand in his face in front of the Montclair State bench at the buzzer.
  • In the second extra frame, the teams were tied at 76-76 less than minute in before back-to-back jump shots from Daniels and Crawford and a dagger of a three from Slade as Crawford penetrated into the paint, causing the defense to collapse and finding Slade on the wing who touched all net.
  • A three from Jackson cut the Albertus lead to 83-79, but the teams exchanged free throws in the final minute as Albertus took an 86-83 lead. On Montclair State's final possession, the Falcons smothered the Red Hawks, not allowing Montclair State to get a shot off before the buzzer.
