HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mitchell took an early 7-1 lead behind five points from Jaylyn Clardy, but the Falcons responded scoring the next eight points, four of which came from Bonilla to take a 9-7 lead.
  • The game remained mostly a one to two possession game for over the next six minutes until the Falcons scored five straight points after a layup from Saikwon Williams (Norwalk, Conn.) and a three from Bonilla to give Albertus a 23-16 lead with 8:20 remaining.
  • The Mariners battled back, scoring the next six points behind four more points from Clardy to take a 24-23 lead with just under six minutes left. Again, Albertus responded with the next six points, capped by a steal and layup from Crawford to make it a 29-24 game with 4:39 left.
  • On the ensuing possession, Kenny Lewis hit a three to make it a two-point game again.
  • Albertus held the lead until Wilton Causey made a layup for Mitchell to tie the game 33-33 with 1:48 left. They'd tie one more time at 34-34, but a three from Gabe Herling (Salisbury, Md.) put the Falcons up 37-34. Albertus would take a 37-36 lead into the half.
  • Mitchell took a 38-37 just over a minute into the second half, but a steal from Slade that led to a three from Bonilla followed by a layup from Washington put the Falcons up, 44-38.
  • Mitchell took a 48-46 lead with 14:50 left, but a well-timed 17-2 run by the Falcons over the next four minutes gave the Falcons their biggest lead of the game at 63-50 with 10:54 remaining. Bonilla and Washington led the charge with six points apiece during the decisive run.
  • The Mariners did not go away, as Clardy scored 11 straight points, eventually knocking the Albertus lead down to 68-67 with 2:34 left.
  • After a free throw from Washington and a miss on the other end by Mitchell, Crawford made an acrobatic reverse layup with 1:16 left to take a 71-67 lead. The Falcons were able to hold the Mariners off the rest of the way.
