Men's Basketball Dominates Norwich From Start To Finish For Eighth Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team dominated from start to finish to win its eighth straight game in an 84-64 drubbing of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon in The Nest.

The Falcons were never tied nor trailed in the wire-to-wire win as they remained undefeated in GNAC play at 9-0.

Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) had another monster game, scoring 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting while grabbing 16 rebounds. Washington had as many rebounds as the entire Norwich team.

Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) scored 14 points, Tazhon Daniels (Hamden, Conn.) and Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.) each scored  10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus scored the first five points of the game beginning with a layup from Duncanson and a three from Bonilla just two minutes into the game.
  • The Falcons held Norwich scoreless until the 15:54 mark as a layup from Owen Liss made it a 5-2 game. After a timeout from Albertus, the team went on a 19-9 run as Bonilla hit two more threes and four points from both Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Washington.
  • Albertus twice held leads of 21 points in the first half and would go into the half leading 43-26 after a three-pointer from Jeyson Slade (Stamford, Conn.) with just over a minute left before halftime. Bonilla scored 11 points and Washington had a double-double in the first half with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Falcons also hit all seven free throws in the half.
  • The Falcons didn't let up in the second half, twice taking leads of 25 points. Once at the 12:43 mark on a layup from Washington and once again at the 11:44 mark on a three-pointer from Bonilla. 
  • Norwich did not get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
  • Washington scored 16 points in the second half and the Falcons shot 55.6 percent (15-for-27) in the second half, including 3-for-5 from three.

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Falcons scored 20 points off of 17 Norwich turnovers. 
  • It was the fourth wire-to-wire win for the Falcons this season, all of which have come in conference play.
  • The Falcons shot a season best 50.0 percent (7-14) from three as well as from the free throw line at 88.2 percent (15-17).
  • Washington now has 13 double-doubles on the season, including his last three games.
  • The Falcons have now won 24 straight games against Norwich and are 29-12 all-time against the Cadets.
  • It was the sixth game this season Bonilla had at least four made three pointers.

 

UP NEXT

The Falcons begin a two-game GNAC road trip beginning with a matchup with Emmanuel on January 30 at 7:30 p.m. It will be a rematch of the 2022-23 GNAC Semifinals.
