Men's Basketball Cruises Past Regis Behind Washington And Bonilla

WESTON, Mass. - Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) dominated Regis College with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team took down the Pride, 88-72 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

The Falcons used a 15-2 run to start the game and never looked back.

Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Regis scored the opening basket of the game, but it was all Albertus for the next six minutes, scoring 15 straight points as Washington scored six and Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.), four.
  • The Pride didn't go away quietly, going on a 19-8 run and getting within 23-21 behind three three-pointers from Gehrig Brynda. A three from Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) started a streak of nine consecutive points from Albertus, taking a 30-21 lead.
  • Regis got within four points four more times in the half, but a layup from Bonilla and one from Washington just before the buzzer gave Albertus a 42-34 lead at halftime.
  • Washington scored 14 points in the half on 7-for-8 from the field. Bonilla and Kirkland each scored seven.
  • Albertus upped its lead to 16 points at 54-38 as Bonilla hit two threes in the opening 3:29 of the half. The Falcons took their biggest lead with 15 minutes remaining, taking a 59-40 lead after two free throws from Duncanson.
  • The Pride crawled back, getting its deficit under double digits after two free throws from Joshua Perez made it a 72-63 game with 6:38 remaining. However, a three from Jeyson Slade on the ensuing possession put Albertus back up, 75-63.
  • The Falcons allowed just two field goals over the last 5:53 to hold onto the win.
  • Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored all eight of his points in the second half on 4-for-7 shooting. Bonilla scored 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting, including both three-point attempts.

  • Albertus dominated on the boards, 49-30 including 23-8 on the offensive end. The Falcons had 36 second chance points, the most this season.
  •  The Falcons had 50 points in the paint, the third most this season.
  • Albertus holds a 9-1 lead over Regis all-time.
