Men's Basketball Falls To No. 6 Trinity In LaFrance Hospitality Tournament

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team fell to No. 6 Trinity College (Conn.) on the first day of the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament at the Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday.

Albertus was paced by a team-high 14 points and three rebounds from Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) Deivone Tanksley (Hartford, Conn.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds with eight points, while Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) had nine points off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening six and a half minutes, the Bantams went on an 11-2 run kickstarted by a jump shot from Jarrel Okorougo. Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.) put Albertus on the board during the stretch off the defensive board by Tanksley to narrow the deficit to four as Trinity led 6-2 at 16:27 in the first half.
  • A 9-1 run by the Falcons, capped off by a defensive rebound and jump shot by Kirkland closed the deficit for Albertus as it trailed 15-13 with 10:49 left. Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.) sparked the rally with a pair of free throws, followed by a three-pointer two possessions later.
  • A block by Ford and a defensive rebound by Yayo Rodriguez (Hartford, Conn.) led to a Tahijj Hunter's (Mount Laurel, N.J.) layup to close out the Albertus scoring in the first.  A layup by Trinity's Will Dorian gave the Bantams a 32-21 lead at the half.
  • Fifteen seconds into the second half, Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) struck first with a jumper to cut the lead to nine but Tristian Davis reciprocated with a layup at 19:30 for a Bantams 34-23 lead.
  • Trinity scored 14 straight points before Ford snapped the scoring stretch with a layup at 16:19 to bring the score to 46-25.
  • Kirkland kept Albertus in the game with seven straight points and a steal across a minute and a half of action. Tanksely's defensive board and Ta'zhon Daniels' (New Haven, Conn.) assist capped off Kirkland's solo run as the sophomore netted a three-pointer at 10:52, but Trinity continued to lead, 54-38.
  • A three-pointer by Lennox Serrano (Waterbury, Conn.) and a layup by Bangaly Berete closed out regulation for a final score of 81-59 in Trinity's favor.
