BOX

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a tight game in the opening two minutes after Malcolm Duncanson's (West Haven, Conn.) free throw and buckets from Ford and Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.), but the hosts broke open the close game with a 9-0 run for the 16-5 advantage with 15:15 remaining.
  • Albertus Magnus trailed 25-9, but an offensive rebound and putback by Rodrick Pearson sparked a 14-7 run that closed the deficit to 32-23. Deivone Tanksley (Hartford, Conn.) scored six points during the run and the Falcons went 8-for-10 from the free trhow line during the stretch.
  • The Falcons countered the home team's 6-0 run with three-pointers from Ford, and Daniels as the teams headed into the intermission with UMass Dartmouth up, 44-31.
  • The Corsairs scored the first five points of the second half, but another a layup from Ford at 18:01, paired with a free throw by Crawford and a layup from Tahijj Hunter (Mount Laurel, N.J.) narrowed UMass Dartmouth's lead to 52-36 with 16:16 to play.
  • A Ford bucket helped cut the Falcons' deficit, 58-41, but six straight points, including four from Ryan Flauto, saw the gap widen to 64-41 with 12:11 remaining.
  • Albertus Magnus continued to respond as Crawford and Daniels each dropped in buckets, but the Corsairs' offense responded to keep the lead at 70-47 after a three from Isaac Percy.
  • Trailing 79-57, the Falcons responded as rookie forward Colin Garretson (East Haven, Conn.) sank a layup, followed by a three from classmate and fellow forward Serrano to close the gap to 79-62 with 5:18 left in the contest.
  • The Falcons continued to push late, backed by buckets from Daniels and Serrano. Following a timeout with 1:50 remaining, Albertus Magnus used another solid run to close the gap to 85-73 off a three-pointer by Ford and a tip-in by Serrano.
