Five Players Score In Double Figures As Men's Basketball Rolls Past Mitchell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Five Albertus Magnus College men's basketball players scored in double figures as the Falcons defeated Mitchell College, 104-75 on Wednesday evening in The Nest.

Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) led the balanced scoring attack for the Falcons with 17 points to go with four rebounds. Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 15 points off the bench, while Lennox Serrano (Waterbury, Conn.) notched a double-double with 11 points - including two dunks - and 10 rebounds.

Ta'zhon Daniels (New Haven, Conn.) scored 14 points with five assists and Deivone Tanksley (Hartford, Conn.) scored 10 points with seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams had five ties and exchanged the lead four times over the first 5:01 of the game. Ford, Jr. hit a three to open the game and Tanksley hit a three to give the Falcons a 14-12 lead during the time frame.
  • Albertus extended its lead to 25-13 as part of an 11-0 run. Serrano started the run with a bang as he hammered home an alley-oop from Ford, Jr. off an inbounds pass behind the Albertus basket. Ford, Jr. followed with a three and Tahijj Hunter (Mount Laurel, N.J.) put in a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound. Crawford followed with an offensive rebound and layup of his own before Ford, Jr. closed the run with a jumper.
  • Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) hit two threes over a 2:14 span to give the Falcons a 35-18 lead with 7:01 left. Albertus led by as much as 20 points on two different occassions in the first half and took a 49-32 lead at the half after back-to-back baskets by Hunter in the final minute. Ford, Jr. scored 14 of his points in the first half on 5-for-8 shooting to go with three assists and two steals. Crawford scored nine points with five rebounds.
  • Daniels opened the second half scoring the first four points for the Falcons and Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.) hit a jumper as Albertus led 55-37 just over two minutes in. 
  • Daniels hit his first three of the game to put Albertus up 63-42. He followed that up with two dimes that led to dunks. The first came on another alley-oop to Serrano from behind the Albertus basket followed by a pass to Avery Hinnant for another dunk that made it a 67-47 game just over five minutes into the half.
  • Albertus increased its lead to 74-49 after an offensive rebound and layup by Serrano. Crawford joined the dunkfest after stealing the ball from Adrian Alicea that led to a fastbreak slam as Albertus led, 78-55.
  • The Falcons led by as much as 30 points at 85-55. Mitchell tried to make a run, scoring the next eight points, but four straight points from Tanksley put to rest any thoughts of a comeback. The Mariners would not get any closer than 23 points the rest of the way.

NOTEWORTHY

  • It's the second time this season the Falcons have scored at least 100 points.
  • The 51.4 percent (37-for-72) shooting from the field marked the third time this season Albertus has shot at least 50 percent.
  • Led by Crawford and Serrano, the Falcons scored a season-high 49 points off the bench.
  • The Falcons scored a season-high 54 points in the paint.
