HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Through the first five minutes of action, Albertus Magnus went on a 13-3 run ignited by a three-point jumper by Ford Jr. 20 seconds into the half with the assist by Daniels. Less than 20 seconds later, Malcolm Duncanson (West Haven, Conn.) denied Elms an attempt to get on the board with a steal and a fastbreak layup to put the hosts quickly up, 5-0. Back-to-back buckets by Hinnant extended the Falcons lead by four, followed by the Blazers' first points off a three-pointer from Aden Goffe at 17:16. Daniels capped off the scoring stretch with four made free throws.
  • Goffe's jumper from behind the arc narrowed the lead to within four, but consecutive layups by Crawford gave Albertus the eight-point edge, 19-11, at 13:17. On the next possession, Daniels added to the Albertus run with a layup set up by Hinnant's defensive rebound and extended the lead to 10.
  • Five made free throws by Goffe in a minute brought the Blazers within nine with 7:25 left. However, a Daniels' three and layup allowed Albertus to regain a double-digit lead, 34-20, with 6:50 remaining in the opening half.
  • Albertus closed out the remaining three minutes with a 13-5 run capped off by a steal and fastbreak dunk by Ford Jr. just before the buzzer as the teams entered the locker room with Albertus leading, 53-35.
  • Tanksley continued Albertus' momentum with a jump shot delivered by Duncanson at 19:40 in the second half.
  • Albertus followed up its first basket with a 6-2 run off a free throw by Hinnant, a jumper by Tanksley and another three-pointer by Ford, Jr.
  • Across a minute and a half of action, Albertus went on an 11-0 run and was capped off by two straight threes from Ford Jr. and Daniels. During the offensive push, Tanksley had a thunderous dunk in transition after a block on the defensive end from Hinnant, the defensive board and assist by Ford Jr.
  • The Blazers retaliated with eight unanswered points to make it a 72-49 game, but Albertus regained control with six straight points with 11:28 left in regulation.
  • Kirkland had a solo 7-0 run, including a three-pointer at 10:07 to pad the Falcons lead to 85-51.
  • Off the bench, Tahijj Hunter (Mount Laurel, N.J.) connected for six points with 4:14 remaining, followed by three points from Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.) and seven from Lennox Serrano (Waterbury, Conn.). Serrano closed the door on the Blazers with a massive steal and windmill dunk with 43 seconds left to extend the lead to 103-66. BJ Holmes (Branford, Conn. ) applied pressure on defense to allow Serrano to steal the ball. The Blazers finished the game with three more points off a free throw and layup.
