Men’s Ice Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Home Win over Wilkes

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team tied a season-high with five goals tonight to cruise to a 5-1 home victory over Wilkes University on Sunday evening at the Ralph Walker Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons took a 1-0 lead 8:59 into the first period when Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) fired a Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) pass by a screened keeper on a power play.

  • Albertus went ahead 2-0 by the 12:29 mark of the first after Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) cashed in on a Tim Manning (Concord, Ohio) pass for an even-strength tally.
  • Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) gave the Falcons a 3-0 advantage with an impressive individual effort at the 7:15 mark of the second.

  • The freshman forward stole the puck in his defensive zone and skated by two defenders before sneaking a shot through the goalie's five-hole.
  • Albertus' defense came through again for its fourth goal, as Coleton Cianci (Kirkland, Quebec) stole the puck in his offensive zone and pulled off a stellar give-and-go with Manning before finding the back of the net.

  • With the game well in hand, the Falcons added one more insurance goal in the third period.
  • After a break due to playing conditions on the ice, AMC returned to play by hitting a goal off the ensuing faceoff.
  • Tyler Ignazzitto (Bath, Ontario) won the draw and found Ryan Colwell (Plainedge, N.Y.), who lifted a shot over the opposing goalie's stick-side shoulder to make it a 5-0 game.

  • The Colonels found a 5-on-3 power-play goal late to spoil the shutout, but the Falcons finished the contest with a 5-1 win.
  • In goal for the Falcons, Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) earned his second win of the season by making 25 saves on 26 shots on goal.

• Today's game marked the fourth all-time meeting between the Falcons and Colonels.
