Men's Lacrosse Earns First Victory in Program History; Defeat Lyndon State 26-13

The Albertus Magnus men's Lacrosse team recorded their first ever victory Thursday afternoon at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. as they defeated the Lyndon State Hornets 26-13.

The Falcons improve to 1-2 overall on the season as the Hornets fall to 0-6.

The Falcons were led by freshman Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) and sophomore Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) as they both recorded an astounding 14 points for the Falcons. Moore scored four goals and 10 assists and Choiniere netted 10 goals and dished out four assists.

The contest started with a dominant run from the Falcons scoring the first nine goals of the game. Choiniere and Moore connected on five of the first nine goals as well, Moore finding his teammate in great positions to set up the easy scores.

Lyndon State seemed to settle into the game in the second quarter as they were led by junior attacker Richard Aberle Jr. Aberle Jr. shot a game-high 19 times and scored on five of those attempts. The Falcons led the Hornets 18-6 after two quarters.

Freshman Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) decided to get involved in the second quarter as he took over the Falcons scoring. Buck scored six of his total eight goals in the second quarter.

Lyndon State outscored the Falcons 5-2 in the fourth quarter however it was not enough to create a comeback as Albertus Magnus won with the final score of 26-13.

Both goalkeepers, Brandon Scicchitano (Norwalk, Conn.) and Marcus Bessette recorded 10 saves in the contest.

Choiniere led all scorers with 10 goals just edging his teammate Buck who recorded eight. Moore led all assist leaders with 10.

Aberle Jr. scored a team high five goals and Billy Bazyk led the Hornets with three assists.

The Falcons will take on the Norwich Cadets this Saturday at 1:00 for their second GNAC contest of the year. The game will take place at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn.
