Falcons Fall 11-7 in Regular-Season Finale at St. Joseph's

The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-7 decision at Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play to conclude the 2014 regular-season. 

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 3-10 on the year and 2-8 in the league standings. 

The Monks, who head into the postseason as the sixth seed, improved to 6-7 overall and 5-5 in GNAC action with today's win.

Saint Joseph's opened the game with two quick goals as Colby Main and Andrew Hamill each scored unassisted goals to give the Monks a 2-0 advantage.  Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) cut the Monks' lead to one as he scored off of a pass from Ryan Brown.

Another Saint Joseph's goal made the score 3-1 after the first quarter.

The Monks opened the second quarter the same as the first, with two-consecutive goals, as they took a 5-1 lead.  Albertus' Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.), the GNAC leader in goals scored this season, scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 5-3.

The Monks responded by scoring four unanswered goals, taking a 9-3 lead in the half as Brandon Boutin tallied three of those four goals.

In the second half, the Falcons' rallied by scoring the only three goals in the third quarter.  Choiniere, Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) and Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) each scored for the Falcons in the third frame to make the score 9-6.

Buck opened the fourth quarter with his third goal of the game and the 44th of the season to cut the Monks' lead down to two at 9-7.

Saint Joseph's held the Falcons' scoreless in the final 11 minutes of play and scored two goals of its own to secure an 11-7 conference victory.

Bennet finished the contest winning 14 of the 22 face offs, while Brandon Scicchitano (Norwalk, Conn.) made seven saves in 60 minutes of work for Albertus, allowing 11 goals.

Choiniere finished with two goals and two assists with all four of his shots being on goal.

The Monks' Ethan Rettew tallied 11 saves in net, while Saint Joseph's outshot the Falcons 35-26 on the day.  Boutin tallied four goals in the contest as four of his five total shots were scores.
