Falcons Fall in Home Opener 16-8 vs. USCG

In the Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse home opener, the Falcons fell to the United States Coast Guard by a score of 16-8 on Tuesday afternoon in New Haven. Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) and Adam Earl (Hamden, Conn.) both tallied two goals in the loss.

Coast Guard (1-3) scored first in the contest as Kyle Carosotto tallied the first goal of the afternoon. Albertus (0-4) answered with three unanswered goals by Choiniere, Earl and sophomore Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine). Choiniere registered the assist on Sargent's fifth goal of the season.

Coast Guard scored four-straight goals before Choinere tallied his second goal of the contest and his team-leading 12th of the season.  The sophomore's goal cut the Coast Guard lead to one at 5-4 after the first quarter.

Earl and Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) added goals early in the second quarter to give Albertus a 6-5 lead. The Bears scored three goals to finish out the half to go into the break with a two-goal lead at 8-6.

Coast Guard outscored the Falcons 5-1 in the third quarter to take a 13-7 lead into the final 15 minutes of the contest. Freshman Liam Oliver (Milford, Conn.) scored his first career in the frame off of a pass from Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.).

Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) scored the Falcons' lone goal of the fourth quarter, his first of the season. Coast Guard's Matt Huemme scored two unassisted goals before a Pat Dreiss goal with 46 seconds left secured the victory for the Bears.

Freshman goalkeeper Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) finished the contest with 17 saves in 60 minutes of work, while Coast Guard's Ryan Carpenter tallied two saves and allowed eight goals in 10 shots on net.

Albertus returns to action on Saturday when the Falcons' host Saint Joseph's of Maine at 12:30 p.m.
