Falcons Soar to 25-3 Victory over Anna Maria

Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) scored 10 goals to lead the Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team to a 25-3 dominating victory over Anna Maria College on Tuesday night in Paxton, Mass.  For the Falcons, it was their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season.

Choiniere added two assists to his points tally as he remains the league leader in goals with 45 this season.

Sophomore Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) tallied six goals and three assists, while Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) added three goals and three assists.

Albertus (2-10, 1-6 GNAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter then added seven unanswered second-quarter goals to take a commanding 11-0 halftime lead.

Anna Maria scored the first goal out of the break on a man-up opportunity but the Falcons outscored the AMCATS 7-3 in the third quarter.

Albertus held a 53-40 advantage in shots and a 60-32 advantage in ground balls.  Greg Shawinsky (Trumbull, Conn.) posted a game-high 14 ground balls for the Falcons and won 19 of the 19 face-offs that he took on the night.

Andrew Marcotte scored two goals for Anna Maria, while Alez Rezendes tallied one as well.

Zachary Sylvia made 17 stops in net for Anna Maria, while Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) stopped 13.

Other goals by the Falcons were scored by Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.), Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine), and Adam Earl (Hamden, Conn.).

Albertus heads to Lyndon State on Thursday for a non-conference match-up that is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
