Men's Lacrosse Falls Short in Season Opener Against Emerson

New Haven, Conn. - Despite a four-goal performance from senior James May (Branford, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team fell short, 10-9, against Emerson College in its season opener on Monday evening at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Emerson controlled the opening quarter, outscoring Albertus Magnus 10-0, and held a 1-0 advantage heading into the second behind an unassisted goal from Jared Brush at the 4:33 mark.

Sophomore Christopher Magnifico (Glastonbury, Conn.) would even the score at 1-1 after a nice feed from Jordan Garguilo (West Haven, Conn.) to start off the second, but the Lions took over on offense, scoring the next three goals, extending the lead to 4-1. Senior Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) would find May for his first goal of the game and would close out the half trailing by two, 4-2.

The duo of May and Moore would strike again in the third, scoring the next three goals to give the Falcons their first lead of the day, 5-4. However, Jared Brush would score back-to-back man-up goals to give the visitors a one-goal edge, 6-5, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Emerson held a three-goal lead with 8:18 remaining, until Jayme Toro (East Haven, Conn.) and Magnifico brought the score to within one, 9-8. Stevie Powers gave Emerson a two-goal cushion at the 3:20 mark before May found the back of the net for his fourth goal, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell at home, 10-9.
