Men's Lacrosse Stumbles at Home to Dean

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home contest to the visiting Bulldogs of Dean College Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field by a final score of 16-5.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Dean kicked off the opening quarter by scoring three unanswered goals to take the early lead before finding themselves ahead by seven, 8-1, heading into the halftime break. 
  • Albertus' first goal of the game came at the 4:15 mark in the second quarter as Zaheim Wilkins (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) found Kader Price (Walden, N.Y.), who found the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season.
  • The Bulldogs kept its offensive momentum going into the third quarter scoring three straight goals over the first 3:45 until Jon Olson (Bellmore, N.Y.) found the back of the net on a man-down opportunity, bringing the score to 11-2, with 9:38 left on the clock.
  • Two minutes later, the Bulldogs tallied their 12th goal of the game following an unassisted tally from Jaden Wise before Matthew Hutchings (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) closed out the quarter by scoring his 47th goal of the season.
  • Trailing 12-3, Albertus saw its deficit grow to 10, 13-3, but a man-up goal from Shane Kelly (Madison, Conn.) brought the deficit back to nine, 13-4, with 9:21 left in regulation.
  • The Bulldogs controlled the next three minutes of play as the visitors scored three goals to take a commanding 16-4 lead.
  • Albertus' final goal of the game came from Will Capalbo (Fairfield, Conn.) from Tyler Landsiedel (Stamford, Conn.) at the two-minute mark to bring the final score to 16-5.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Falcon keeper Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) finished with 16 saves in the net.
  • Wally Carroll (Longbeach, N.Y.) also made an appearance in goal for the Falcons and finished with two saves.
  • Capalbo finished with a team-high three caused turnovers.
  • Capalbo's goal in the fourth quarter was his second of the season. 
  • Wilkins tallied his 10th assist of the spring.
  • Landsiedel's assist was his third this year.

The men's lacrosse team returns to the field on Tuesday, April 11th, with a road conference tilt against the Lasers of Lasell University. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
