Men's Soccer Suffers Defeat to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 4-0

STANDISH, ME. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback on the road to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Saturday afternoon at the SJC Sports Complex.

Ben Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) paced the Falcons with two shots, one on goal, while David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) made the start in net and picked up five saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Saint Joseph's of Maine kicked off the conference clash scoring the first goal of the game just two minutes in to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • The Monks continued to threaten the Falcons' backline as Gus Ford scored the next goal for the hosts nine minutes later, increasing the lead to 2-0. 
  • Albertus began to pick up momentum offensively as Pierce and Eduardo Chavez (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a shot each, but both were unsuccessful against the Monks' keeper and backline. 
  • Will Wood would go on to score with a minute to go into the first to put the Monks up 3-0 heading into the halftime break. 
  • Albertus and Saint Joseph's opened the second stanza by trading shot attempts until the 58th minute as Michael Wildes got one past the Falcon keeper for the game's fourth goal. 
  • The Falcons could not mount the comeback over the final 30 minutes of play, as the Monks kept up the pressure and prevented Albertus from finding the net.
