NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team emerged victorious over the Mariners of Mitchell College with a 4-2 win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play this afternoon.

There were four different Albertus goal scorers in the victory: Gabriel Paglia (Amity, Conn.), Kris Bocchio (Middletown, Conn.), Donaldo Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) and Aiden Coelho (Naugatuck, Conn.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus came out of the gate with a quick goal in the 2nd minute of play to stun Mitchell. Senior defender Paglia connected to score off a Falcon corner kick sent in by Coelho.

The Falcons did not let off the gas, scoring again in the 36th minute of play. Freshman midfielder Bocchio cut into the middle and beat his defender. Bocchio then launched a shot from just outside of the penalty box into the upper lefthand corner of the net.

In the 39th minute, Paglia launched a deep ball to sophomore forward Yanez who was making a streaking run toward the Mariners penalty box. Yanez controlled the ball off his head, then struck the ball off the bounce past the Mitchell goalkeeper for the Falcons' third goal.

The Mariners fought back in the second half to earn a free kick just inside the halfline. Nicholas Ghirardi sailed in a ball to Dylan Lucey who flicked it off his head into the back of the net, making the score 3-1 in the 51st minute of play.

Mitchell brought the score within one in the 66th minute off a penalty kick, 3-2. Following a foul in the box, Ghirardi stepped up to the spot to score for the Mariners. 

Coelho sealed the victory for the Falcons in the 86th minute. Colby Nardelli (Berlin, Conn.) played a through ball between the Mariner defenders to Coelho who took a touch and rocketed it into the goal for a 4-2 Falcon victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• The Falcons held the clear advantage over the Mariners in corner kicks, 9-0.

• Albertus took 26 shots compared to Mitchell's seven. The Falcons had 12 of those shots on target, while the Mariners put five on frame. 

NOTEWORTHY

• Bocchio and Yanez each found the back of the net with their first career goals.

• Paglia and Coelho each scored their second career goal.
