Men’s Soccer Ties JWU After Late Goal From Wildcats

Providence, R.I. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team played Johnson and Wales University to a 1-1 draw in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Tuesday evening in a battle of two of the top four teams in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus took advantage of its first scoring opportunity of the game in the ninth minute, when Roger Baldwin, found a streaking Eduardo Chavez, who centered a pass to Ben Pierce, who took a point blank shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Goalkeeper David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) kept the Wildcats out of the net in the first half with five saves in the first half. The Wildcats had an opportunity to tie the game in the 34th minute on a penalty shot, but a shot from Aidan Bagley hit the post, preserving the shutout for the Falcons at the time.

The score remained the same until the 88th minute when a corner from Alexander Pane was headed by Jonathan Baker to Carlos Andrade who headed the ball in to tie the game.

  • The Falcons, who have already clinched a GNAC playoff berth now sits in fourth place with 24 points, one ahead of Norwich.
