NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Lorenzo Lauria (New Haven, Conn.) scored 23 seconds into the game and Johan Stagnaro (East Hartford, Conn.) made a game-preserving stop in the final two minutes as the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Springfield College in the team's 2024 season opener on Friday evening at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-
After the teams played to a scoreless tie last season, it took the Falcons just 23 seconds to get on the board against the Pride this time around as Lauria scored his first goal as a Falcon. On the goal, Philip Pires (Trumbull, Conn.) floated a pass over the defense and Lauria chipped it over Springfield goalkeeper Noah Pote to give Albertus the early 1-0 lead.
-
Albertus was able to keep the Pride out of the net in the first half, which included a sprawling save by David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) off of a header from Tristan Moran 18 minutes into the game.
-
In the second half, the Pride got on the board after a handball resulted in a penalty kick which was scored by Cole Sampson.
-
Springfield had a break away opportunity with under two minutes left but Stagnaro blocked a shot in the box from Aidan Hallinan that preserved the tie.
